  • This is a question that we often receive, and for good reason.  The topics of faith, religion, spirituality, etc. are not only personal, but foundational to the way many people identify themselves, live, and operate.  And also, because we work in the field of trauma, we know that experiences with faith, religion, spirituality, etc. can hold pain, hostility, betrayal, hurt, trauma, confusion and abuse.   Please know that whatever your experience may be…..we are here for you.

    What We Believe:
We, personally, are Christians, meaning we are followers of Jesus Christ.  We believe that God is the creator and author of this world and everything in it.  The bible is God’s story which tells us His plan for the world and for humanity.  This helps us to understand the purpose of life and gives us direction and meaning.  The bible is clear that God is love and that He wants goodness for us. In fact, He demonstrated His love for us by tying Himself to humanity through sending his own son, Jesus, to live on earth as a human.  Jesus’ experiences, thoughts, feelings, inner-world, and actions throughout his time on earth provide us the example of what it means to live as a true ruler and leader.  This gift allows us, even today, the choice to pursue living life in the goodness of what God intended.

The bible also shows us that while God treasures and values each and every human life, He also knows how highly imperfect humans are.  The bible is full of stories about people whom God loved….and those same people were also prone to getting off track, misusing power and control, harming themselves and others, and creating terrible messes.  Pain, addiction, evil, chaos, trauma, destruction and death are a very real part of life on earth. Suffering takes place within individuals, in relationships, churches, communities, and in cultures.  As Christians, we are called to care for each other when suffering happens, regardless of if we were harmed by others or if we caused it.  And the bible is full of examples about how God calls us to care for others.  God promises us that He is present and with us.  He is the healer, restorer, and transformer of people.  Because of this, hope is always possible.

    How We Practice:
No matter what you have done, been through, experienced, or are currently struggling with, as Christians and as therapists, we want you to know that your story matters to us.  We believe in being in community with others, listening well, understanding your situation, walking beside you as you pursue wellness, holding onto hope with you, and dedicating ourselves to utilizing professional resources to help you flourish.

What This Looks Like In Therapy:
We value respect, compassion, and honesty.  We value people and relationships.  We value engaging in life experiences and walking with others as they do the same.  We value helping people to find safety, clarity, understanding, peace, healing, and growth in their lives.

Whether or not you want faith incorporated into sessions is up to you.  There is no judgement from us either way and we invite you to share your wishes with us.  Simply put, we are glad you are coming to see us regardless of your stance.

We believe in allowing adults to make their own life choices.  There is no hidden agenda to try to get clients to share in our beliefs.  If you desire to have faith incorporated into sessions, this looks like curiosity, exploration, and seeking truth.  It does not look like pushing Bible verses onto people with the expectation that you should feel healed and be able to easily move on.  It does not look like telling people how to live their lives, or making relational decisions for them as if we are the experts over our clients’ inner world.  And, it does not look like us turning a blind eye to ignore injustice, abuse, trauma, harm, and pain.

If you have any questions or concerns about this, we invite you to share those with us in session.

  • The Good Faith Estimate is part of the federal Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021.  It established new requirements referred to as the “No Surprises” Act.  One of the purposes of the law is to protect consumers from being surprised by medical bills after receiving care. It requires providers to give an estimate of healthcare costs to patients before treatment.  This is called the “Good Faith Estimate.”

The law dictates that self-paying clients are required to receive a Good Faith Estimate before beginning therapy and also annually through the No Surprises billing protections.  Since Windflower does not accept or file insurance for clients and because professional counselors are classified as healthcare workers, our clients are considered “self-paying” for healthcare services according to the law and therefore must receive a Good Faith Estimate. This estimate will be sent out with our other required paperwork before the first session and also annually through Windflower’s client portal.

The good news is that Windflower has always been upfront and transparent about the cost of services.  The cost of services can be found in the Informed Consent paperwork that clients are required to sign prior to beginning therapy.  Additionally, clients can always access and review these documents through their portal at any time.

  • First off, we can’t wait to meet you and welcome you to Windflower Therapy and Wellness!  We are aware of the courage it takes to enter the counseling session for the first time and we do not take that lightly.

If you are in-person, you can expect to be greeted in the waiting room by your therapist.  Your job is to complete all initial paperwork in the portal, get to the waiting room, and just settle in!

One of our goals during the first session is to make sure there is clarity and understanding all-around.  We will be transparent about the therapeutic process and what it means.  We will invite you to ask us questions you may have.  And, we will work with you to figure out how we can best help.  You’ll have the space to share the parts of your story you feel comfortable telling us.  And, you will never be expected to tell us information that you are not ready to verbalize.

We want your investment in yourself to be worth it for you.  And we want you to feel safe in our counseling space.

  • We strive to work efficiently and effectively with our clients.  We also are aware of the financial investment clients are making.  We honor that by practicing with high professional standards and expectations of ourselves.  We want healing, growth, goodness, relief, etc for our clients as fast as possible.

That being said, every client’s story and situation is different.  To make promises and predictions on treatment length would be unethical.  Some clients' goals are achieved in a brief amount of time while others use therapy sessions as part of their own health and wellness plans- a trusted space to regularly go and make sense of life experiences.

We desire for clients to feel the shift from the initial dreaded “I need to be in therapy” to a new anticipation of “Wait a minute, I get to go to therapy today!”

  • Appointments can be scheduled in multiple ways.  Our online portal allows clients to see current availability and request appointments.  Potential clients can also fill out a contact form through our website.  Or, our client coordinator can be reached by emailing info@windflowertherapy.com or calling (830) 203-6839.

  • Appointments must be cancelled at least 24 hours before the scheduled session time.  Sessions cancelled less than 24 hours before the appointment and missed appointments will be charged the full price of the session.  We do not enjoy charging the cancellation/missed appointment fee as much as clients do not like paying it.  We strongly recommend clients take advantage of using the session alerts that send reminders 48 hours in advance of the scheduled appointment.

  • EMDR, or Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, is a powerful and evidence-based therapeutic approach designed to help individual heal from the symptoms and distress that result from disturbing life experiences.  Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR focuses on activating the brain in a different way.  The therapy involves a structured process to help the body reprocess the memory in a way that reduces disturbances, allowing the individual to gain new insights, heal, and move forward with a greater sense of peace and resilience.

  • Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is a powerful, evidence-based approach to counseling rooted in the science of adult attachment.  It is an approach designed to help individuals, couples and families who want to deepen relational connections and address relational distress and disconnection.  EFT focuses on healthy relationships by prioritizing the importance of emotional bonds, open communication, insights, and engaging in new ways together.

  • We do not accept insurance for a multitude of reasons.  However, we are happy to provide a superbill for any client that wants to seek reimbursement through their insurance plan as an out-of-network expense.
